I'm new to this blog world; I thought I would start off by blogging about my best friend and I's hike to Whitting Ranch in Irvine California. To start off, Whitting Ranch has 23 different trails ranging from easy, moderate, and difficult all leading somewhere to make the hike worthwhile.

We decided to hike to Red Rock Canyon, we took 3 different trails to get there: Borogo Canyon Trail (easy), we attempted Mustard Road (difficult--they don't lie, it was no walk in the park). We quickly got off that and did the Caddle Pond Loop trail, and took Red Rock Canyon trail to the beautiful destination. It was about 4-5 miles, and totally worth it! It didn’t feel like you were in Irvine anymore as ginormous red rocks surrounded us!

Tips from us to you:

  1. Park at the McDonald’s across the street on Portola Parkway, that way you don’t have to pay for parking

  2. Bring your GoPro or iPhone to take some stunning pictures, you’ll regret it if you don’t!

  3. WARNING: you are hiking in dirt, so don’t bring your new cute Nike Free Runs

  4. After rainy season you could potentially cross-rivers, when we went they were all dried up…bummer!

  5. Bring sunscreen; most of the hike is shaded however in the beginning and at the end it isn’t, so you will get burned. Take it from us white girls.

  6. Beware there are mountain bikers that travel at high rates of speed

  7. There are mountain lions…however, we didn’t see any but there were A LOT of lizards that would jump out at you.

  8. Bring lots of water… you will get thirsty!

  9. We brought a lunch once we reached the top…sit back, snack, and enjoy the views!

We defiantly will be back!

XOXO, Megan
